Bullying

Do you know a bully or a friend who is troubled by one?

In this post, Renae shares who a bully is and what can we do about it?

Who is a bully?

A bully is a person who intends to harm others. This could be a girl or a boy.

What is a bully's intent?

A bully wants others to be fearful of them and obey their commands.

Bullying is very bad. It does not pull anyone up, but only pushes them down. It troubles and harms others.

Should we be afraid of a bully?

No, because God will help us if we ask for help.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7

God gave us his Spirit. And the Spirit doesn’t make us weak and fearful. Instead, the Spirit gives us power and love. He helps us control ourselves.

This is a reminder that you and I shouldn't be fearful of the bully because we have God's Spirit living in us and that gives us the power to be courageous and face the bully.

What should you do if a bully troubles you?

We should ask the bully to stop troubling us. It’s best to inform a person in authority - parents, guardians, teachers etc.

I will also encourage my friends to stand up for themselves and speak out against the bully.

The Bible says in Matthew 5:43 - 48 NIRV

You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbour. (Leviticus 19:18) Hate your enemy.’ But here is what I tell you. Love your enemies. Pray for those who hurt you. Then you will be children of your Father who is in heaven. He causes his sun to shine on evil people and good people. He sends rain on those who do right and those who don’t. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Even the tax collectors do that. If you greet only your own people, what more are you doing than others? Even people who are ungodly do that. So be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

From this Bible verse, I have learned that we should not hate our enemies. We should pray for them. But we should not like the bad things they do and neither encourage it.

We can take the help of adults and help the bully to change their behaviour. We can encourage them to be kind and helpful to others.
